In this pint-sized, sun-drenched storefront downtown, you might not know until you order that this is actually two establishments in one. Sōen and Courier Coffee have dissolved into a single, casual haven for coffee, matcha, and kakigori. The shared space is warm and inviting, simply furnished with a few tables in the front and an open prep kitchen in the back, separated by a wooden counter where you can order from either or both menus. The cafe infused with creative energy, records spinning music and little illustrations adding a playful edge to the space.
Courier Coffee is a local roaster with some of the best single origin coffee in the city and house made pastries to round it out. Sōen is a Japanese cafe, serving up matcha, kakigori (shaved ice, with flavors that change seasonally), and light bites (maki rolls, curry bowls, onigiri). Together, it becomes a casual neighborhood haunt for a morning coffee run, a light lunch, and an afternoon treat within a perfect little block that gives a sense of small business community in the heart of the city.
