nabila's

lebanese comfort food in the heart of court street

Cobble Hill is rich with neighborhood restaurants. Court Street alone seems to have at least one good restaurant on each side of every block. While the neighborhood is celebrated for the old school Italian American mainstays, Nabila’s has quickly become a part of the scene. Visually, it looks as sleek and contemporary as any new restaurant on the scene, a little mid-century modernism accented with Neo-Levantine geometry in the arches and scalloped tilework. Culinarily, it’s soulful Lebanese home cooking with contemporary perspective. The restaurant is run by a son who gifted the community with his own mother’s, Nabila’s, cooking. The recipes made here are based on generations of family cooking passed down and brought over from Beirut.

The menu is streamlined and evolves seasonally but promises everything you need to put together a balanced mezze spread, from creamy dips to crisp kibbeh and fatayer to an excellent fattoush. Mains lead with comfort: think braised meats, stewed vegetables, baked dumplings. And don’t sleep on dessert. The knafeh always hits, but they often have something special in the pastry case. In addition to daily dinner service and weekend lunch service, they do takeaway at the counter for some of the best comfort food.

good to know

Go here for: an easy weeknight option, a vibe shift for weekend brunch, and some great takeaway for a dinner party at home

Order this: get the kibbeh as a little snack (they do a vegetarian pumpkin option too), their fattoush is a fresh option for warmer months, lentil soup feels like a hug for colder months, and for mains get anything stewy they have on the menu

Amount of time to spend: about an hour, service is pretty fast but it’s a leisurely eating environment

When to come: weeknight dinners are easiest for walk ins, or come early for a weekend lunch. During warmer months they add a bunch of outdoor tables.

Getting here: about a 5 minute walk from the Bergen St F/G.

Other things to note:

  • There are plenty of options that are vegetarian friendly. And they always have interesting seasonal specials.
  • Reservations are available via Resy, but walk-ins are doable on weekdays and off-peak times weekend
