A wonderful way to get to know a city’s art and culture scene is through an independent art book store. Post is a bookstore that operates more like a gallery. They have presence around Tokyo, curating books for offices and galleries and the MUJI hotel in Ginza, and hosting the Tokyo Art Book. But their standalone shop in Ebisu is worth repeat visits. At any given time, they focus on one single publisher, sourced from around the world. The collector curator philosophy invites visitors to explore a publisher’s oeuvre and experience a point of view that you typically don’t see.
The best way to describe the shop description is, well, to show, not tell. Their “books” website gives a delightful digital proxy. The shop isn’t big, about the size of a small art gallery, but it is filled to the brim with inspiration for anyone with creative tendencies.
