måurice

my platonic ideal of a seasonal luncheonette

Måurice bills itself as a “modern pastry luncheonette” which basically says it all. Blending Norwegian and French influences with PNW ingredients and a highly seasonal and sustainable lens, it is effortlessly chic in that timeless, vaguely European way. The white-washed space is a world of its own, filled with curated details: deceivingly simple dishes composed on vintage china.

As charming as the space is, the food is what you come for. House made pastries pair beautifully with coffee and tea for a fika. Add a few more small plates and you have yourself a delicate yet decadent lunch. If I lived in Portland I would be here once a week, maybe more. It’s the kind of place that feels like it should be your favorite spot, a place to linger an entire afternoon, transitioning from coffee to lunch to vermouth and get on a first name basis with the people.
