ceremonia bakeshop

come for the burritos, stay for the pastries

On any quest for New York’s best breakfast burrito, Ceremonia Bakeshop inevitably enters the chat. Masquerading as a bakery behind a well endowed, very colorful pastry case, Ceremonia is the breakfast spot for the neighborhood. It’s the kind of place that has a gravitational pull. On any given weekend morning there will be a small crowd happily sipping on coffee and munching on pastries while waiting for their breakfast burritos. Which is to say, it’s a good crowd.

Ceremonia feels perfectly homey. Not the kind of place that was made for the social media gaze, rather a place that caters to the neighborhood with a pastry case that just happens to be exceptional. Filled with unique flavors in familiar forms. Thai tea American style cookies, churro butter mochi, buckwheat and almond banana muffins. And some well-executed classics like decadent sausage rolls and fluffy cinnamon rolls. And the perfect confetti sprinkle cookie that makes any day feel celebratory.

good to know

Go here for: a great breakfast burrito, a sweet treat

Order this: the burrito or biscuit for a full breakfast, or go for a butter mochi or cookie with your go-to coffee order

Amount of time to spend: about 10-20 minutes, it can get pretty crowded and there can be a wait for the burritos made to order

When to come: weekdays are easier, just avoid peak brunch hours on weekends with the longest wait

Getting here: about a 10 minute walk from the Marcy station (J/M/Z) and the Bedford L (take the Driggs exit)

Other things to note: To avoid a wait, put in your order online for pickup via Doordash.
