// NEW YORK CITY // WILLIAMSBURG, WEST VILLAGE //
when new york slices get an old world makeover
In a city full of pizza shops and an endless, passionate debate over the title of “best slice,” L’Industrie makes a strong case. From the outside of its original Williamsburg location, it seems to follow the rhythm of any other New York City pizza shop. Not overly flashy or fancy, a small footprint is filled with action as pies are expertly assembled and baked to fill endless orders. It seems a bit ironic to say that the thing that sets L’industrie apart is the Italian part. As in, their menu is an Italian interpretation of the classic New York slice. Thin, foldable, served by the slice to be eaten on the street. But integrating ingredients and techniques from the motherland.
Since opening in 2017 in what used to be a quieter part of Williamsburg, it picked up enough hype to draw lines around the block. Their success led to a second location in the West Village (continuing the tradition of these two neighborhoods melding into one), a little bigger, with an open kitchen and a partnership with the brewery next door to sit down with a beer. Come for the burrata slice, but stay for their seasonal soft serve gelato and sorbets, drizzled with olive oil. Their pastry case is also not to be slept on, leaning heavily on the Italian with fresh cream filled maritozzo and bombolone. So yeah, it’s a pretty good slice shop. But it is also much more than that, the quality and menu compels you to call it a pizzeria, true to its roots but also faithful to the local traditions.

Go here for: a really good slice that feels more special than spontaneous, yes when tourists are in town, but also as a weekday indulgence
Order this: their signature L’industrie slice, the burrata slice, fig jam and bacon for something a little sweet, and definitely check out what the daily pan pizza is, and whatever you do, get the gelato and maybe a frozen aperol spritz to round it out
Amount of time to spend: if you’re lucky and there’s not a long line, 15-30 minutes is plenty, on weekends definitely budget at least 45 minutes to account for a longer wait
When to come: weekday afternoons are best to avoid a long line
