salswee

desserts made to be TikTok famous

Salswee boasts one of the most abundant, most spectacular pastry spreads in New York City. Here, patisserie is an art. Pastry is less of a food category and more a form of troupe l’oeil. It is as much a visual feast for your eyes as it is for your tastebuds. The minimalist space is modest in footprint but well laid out: pastry counter on one side, and a couple tight rows of tables on the other, with a coffee counter in the back.

You start with an array of beautiful laminated pastries that combine French techniques with Asian flavors, with many that are just vying for social media virality (think: flat croissants dipped in chocolate, matcha mousse filled croissants decorated with cream, a pillowy black sesame croissant cube). And then, the stars of the show, a gallery of meticulously crafted cakes shaped to look like glistening fruit miniatures, from mango to orange to pear to banana, each exquisitely composed to trick the eye and tempt your most gluttonous impulses.

Perhaps the most notable thing about Salswee is its price point. It’s notably well-priced for this level of finesse and presentation. They could easily double the price and still garner a decent amount of attention online and in person. Enough to make you cherish it as if it might disappear, as fleeting as the pastries you just devoured.
