After months of constant moving, shuffling from one place to another, packing and unpacking my way around the world, a short month of staying. My entire movements this month were within the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. And if we’re being honest, limited parts of each borough too.
But in the dark days of a wet and cold winter. Where the grey days drone on, almost disguising how the days are becoming longer, one comes to seek little comforts. And for me that came in the form of noodles, art and the spa.
The best days always start with pastries, and Salswee’s exceeded expectations. The best days are filled with art. MoMA is big enough to fill a few hours on a rainy day without traveling too far. The best days mean noodles for meals. A hot soba for lunch, and tried and true favorite thick hand pulled noodles from Spicy Village on the way home. Everything else is just gravy. A massage and facial. Shoppy shops. Perusing used bookstores. And cake.
Not the office chair haunting me on a day off. But the smartly curated look back on iconic everyday designs does make you look at things differently.
on a wellness kick
Which means indulging in a facial and a massage. Spencer’s Spa hit the mark. A lovely full facial (and a much needed massage), and honestly it was hard to leave their beautiful lounge that felt like the ideal Soho loft. Enough to make even the most Brooklyn part of me fantasize about living in hell the heart of Soho.
maroon and lavender
For someone who hates purple, I’m loving this color combination. Also a double french manicure. Considering I don’t even like regular french manicures, surprisingly nice.
Art Day. Except this time we’re downtown. Hot coffees in hand, started in the LES and then looped around Chinatown over to the Soho and Tribeca galleries.
Popped into the beautiful lofty Jack Shaiman Gallery for Nick Cave’s Amalgams and Graphts. Fantastical and political. Maximalist and ornate and botanical, with commentary on race and society and generational history.
a bit chilling given the current landscape but so very good
honestly, an incredible production
like i said, winter comforts
we do love to hate a scam
easy formula these harlan coben shows but it works
ok i get the hype, its cute. and also i miss LA
british? murder? yes.
look at this cutie patootie little hater who hated so good he won 5 grammys 🥹
BUNGEE SPACE, an indie little bookstore that is definitely cooler than you. it’s giving artsy and creative and iykyk.
QUARTERS, a place that will probably soon by overhyped, a most beautifully curated showroom that exudes taste. in an aspirational way.
Sawa hit the mark for comfort food on a rainy Sunday. The fluffiest pita inspiring me to eat more often in the neighborhood.
rigor hill always hits, but it hits a little extra on the way between the office and campus for a night class dinner.
ok solid contender for new favorite cafe in the lower east side, bright, bold, latina.
when in Williamsburg, always swing by former favorite neighborhood bakeries. Had to pass on the breakfast burrito this time around but the ceremonia cookie brightens up any day.
after being in korea, this doesn’t hit the same, but elorea does scratch the itch.
