October is always a bit of a frenzy. Summer tans fading, days shortening, weather cooling down, leaves falling. Work picking up, and holidays looming. So many events, and a heavy side of election anxiety.
And so we frantically make our way uptown, admire the colorful leaves, partake in some fall shit in hopes of distraction from the chaos of the city, even if only for a day.
A short trip up to Sleepy Hollow, because tis the season. And it delivered. The vibrant leaves. Halloween decorations. A peaceful walk through the cemetery in the brisk air. Leaves in a creek. A windy walk along the Hudson.
The travel shopping obsession hit the next level in Paris. Managed to spend nearly two paychecks in one weekend. From gifts to pantry goods to perfume to clothing and leather goods, it took some strategic repacking to get it all back home.
Picked up some beautifully fragrant “blue tea” (oolong, as far as I can tell) from Mariage Freres in their signature Marco Polo blend. Pantry staples like mustard and fleur de sel and a corichon embellished mayonnaise. Custom made some Sabre butter spreaders and engraved a comb at Officine Universelle Buly. And collected new pieces from the archive stores at APC, Sezane, Sandro and more. A damn good haul.
Regularly prescribed dose of art. A day in the galleries, this time on the Lower East Side. Popped into Perrotin and then went down Orchard Street, half shopping half gallery hopping.
god this show stresses me out so much but is so addicting
finished off a full day conference (incl. a DDK cameo) with a this play, not much of a play person but can’t ever say no to broadway
went to a talk back for this very poignant film, the kind that makes you think, but also let’s you into the world to laugh and cry with the characters
Orchard Street is always a good shopping street, but came across some new favorites: Beverly 1975 with beautifully curated homeware and decor, and Aedes Perfumery with a collection of niche European fragrances.
BACK TO GREENPOINT // Been a minute since I’ve spent an afternoon aimlessly wandering Greenpoint. Visited some old favorites and happened upon new ones. Bought some new things and spent some time thrifting. North Brooklyn really is an easy place to linger.
MIDTOWN ART DAY // Spent a day in the Drawing Room. A little work, a little art, had some tea, picked up some lunch at La Chilaqueria. A wonderful low stress day.
Probably ate more catered food than restaurant food this month, but did get plenty of little treats. Study sessions uptown always mean Hungarian Pastry Shop and Dear Mama.
