mel the bakery

a bakery worth the trip alone

Mel is that girl. As in, that girl that used to live in Lower Manhattan and then during the pandemic, emigrated out of the city and upstate to Hudson for small town dreams. And honestly, who can blame her? Clearly, she’s thriving. A celebrated city bakery that has transitioned beautifully into this new chapter.

Mel is, to put it simply, a really, really good bakery. Excellent bread, excellent laminated pastries (sweet and savory) that utilize locally sourced and milled heirloom grains. And on top of that great sweet treats (annoyingly good cookies) and sandwiches (both of the breakfast and lunch varietals). Their upstate space is notably larger than the former corner home on Ludlow Street. They have enough room for some very well curated grocery shelves, as well as some indoor seating, as well as a courtyard outside for additional seating on a nice day. Honestly the only fault to find is the fact they’re closed Monday through Wednesday.
