LA has great Thai food. Thai Town probably has some of the best Thai food on this side of the world. And among many, many great Thai restaurants in the neighborhood, Sapp is a beloved establishment that continues to be a favorite among Angelenos. Like most good things in LA, it’s nestled in a small, nondescript strip mall. Despite its name, it is not a coffee shop. And despite it’s local fame, it still feels very much like a neighborhood mom and pop shop.
The humble footprint is filled with unremarkable but practical furnishings that are very lived in. Supplies are stacked high on industrial shelves. It feels like a time capsule, preserved for decades with the wear of the years but tidily organized to fit the needs of a busy restaurant. The staff is friendly and efficient. Dishes come out quick, filling the tables with bowls of boat noodles, punchy herby salads and homey stir fried dishes over rice. They’re known for the boat noodles, but truly the menu is full of authentic dishes that hit every time.
