Tokyo Paris Le Dessert 東京巴黎甜點

decadent french-japanese cakes

This bakery may have Tokyo and Paris in its name, but it is local to Taipei. The bakery specializes in cakes of the French-Japanese variety, decidedly tailored for the Asian palate. Pillowy chiffon enrobed in light whipped Hokkaido cream and adorned with perfectly picked fresh fruit. Even in a highly competitive bakery and dessert landscape, in (relatively) less trafficked locations, and at a more premium price point, their cakes have a dedicated following. From naked loaves of bouncy castella sponge sandwiched with cream, to mini round “cup” cakes with decadent chiffon layers and chocolate or fruit piled high, to giant gold foil wrapped (Ferrero Rocher style) egg yolk moon cakes for Mid-Autumn festival, the bakery marches to the beat of its own drum when it comes to tradition, flavor and technique for its original creations.

The flagship store on Nanjing East Road has a small, simple tearoom for enjoying the cakes on site, but most people are queuing up by the brightly lit display case to select their cakes for takeaway in gilded gold boxes.
