If we’re being truly honest, Dépanneur is a bit more of a scene these days than it needs to be. It embodies the “Brooklyn is like the Silver Lake of New York” type of Tiktok vibe that is just a bit too much of a sit and be seen that you need. But alas, with a name like Dépanneur, it’s bound to attract a certain crowd that seeks out the artisanal version of bodega fare. The shop has shelves lined with “fine foods,” the epicurean goods that are perfect for gifting. There’s also a counter for sandwiches, pastries and coffee, which are admittedly, quite good. The line up of 14 sandwiches cover a breadth of vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat options, breakfast-y and lunch-y. All on good bread, which makes all the difference.

Grab a sandwich and a coffee and snag a table outside to people watch the parade of north Brooklyn caricatures pass by, or walk a block over to the waterfront to enjoy the view of Manhattan from a safe distance. They also have a wine shop next door, making it a one stop shop for a dinner party or French inspired picnic.
