ice cream inspired by the world
It’s in the name. Wanderlust Creamery is a home grown ice cream shop that is focused as much about the flavors as it is the places that inspire them. Founded in 2015 by two graduates of CSUN who are partners in business and a married couple, the business has expanded far beyond its first Tarzana location over the years, now with 8 locations across LA with more to come in Southern California.
Their ice cream is objectively good, but where they shine is in their menu filled with selections that are, for lack of a better word, uncommon from what you’d typically expect. Their signature flavors cover a lot of ground, both in the spectrum of ingredients and in, well geography. Drawing inspiration from destinations and culinary traditions across continents, each ice cream flavor feels purposeful, not just a culinary creation, but one with a backstory that transports you on a journey. Each month, they drop a new seasonal menu with limited time flavors and it’s pretty much guaranteed there will be at least one that will compel you to out of your way to stop by and sample. Can globally-inspired ice cream scratch the itch for traveling? Maybe not. But it can at least keep things interesting for a wide range of palettes. After all, ice cream does pretty much have universal appeal.

Go here for: an ice cream fix when you’re bored of the usual flavor offerings
Order this: the Thailand inspired Mango Sticky Rice (vegan made with housemade rice milk and coconut cream), Ube Malted Crunch inspired by Filipino flavors, and their tribute to Mexican hot chocolate, the Abuelita Malted Crunch, are all signature favorites, but be sure to always check out their seasonal flavors
Amount of time to spend: largely depends on how indecisive you are, but 10-15 minutes in and out is easy
When to come: any time, all the time, it’s always ice cream season
Getting here: the situation varies by location, Atwater and Tarzana have parking lots, Pasadena has public lots and plenty of meters, Venice usually isn’t too hard to find street parking, but Sawtelle and Beverly Grove can be a bit of a challenge unsurprisingly
