June feels like a blip. Like one moment it was May and then suddenly July looms, we’re halfway through the year, the days are getting shorter and sweaty summer nights are numbered.
June is Pride Month, June is Juneteenth. And apparently June is when the Supreme Court decides to throw all progress out the window and take us back in time. We’re nostalgic for the before times, sure, but we meant the pandemic, not the Global Sixties.
June was a bleak start to summer. As they long days wore on, it transitioned from hesitantly warm to decidedly hot. But longer days mean more time to spend out and about, and there’s nothing like summer in the city.
June was a culture-heavy month. Started off strong with a mid-week trip up to the Met for the fashion exhibition.
Somehow unintentionally attended two (2) premiere screenings: Ms Marvel (which was followed by a surprise and very endearing cast panel moderated by Hasan Minaj), and Spiderhead (which was a baby netflix screening that felt like a nice gesture but honestly this movie probably would have been better watched from home like a true netflix movie – sorry tny!)
And of course watched the new Top Gun movie (which was objectively so much better and subjectively much more enjoyable) at a drive in on an offensively cold summer night after an absurdly colorful sunset over the city.
ate quite sporadically this month, but alas, it’s summer
