// LOS ANGELES // EAGLE ROCK //
a bold colored peruvian chinese restaurant that feels right at home in LA
Chifa is a family restaurant. Not in a traditional sense. In fact, quite the opposite. The bold aqua turquoise palette is accented with a bright red and rich gold finishings. A modern environment for a restaurant that maintains its family heritage and translates it to the cool kid food scene in Eagle Rock. The original Chifa began decades ago in Lima when a woman from Hong Kong emigrated to Peru. A generation later, the restaurant is reincarnated in a form that fits the 2020s: unapologetically and loudly proud of the cultures that come through in every dish.
The menu spans Cantonese and Taiwanese inspired dishes and Peruvian classics, from decadent brûléed char siu to untraditional vegan zongzi to bountiful bowls of lomo saltado waiting to be shared. Chifa is deceivingly complex in its simplicity. The name basically is what every Chinese restaurant is called in Peru. But in its dishes you see the layers of cultural histories intertwining, evolving from generation to generation until it becomes in its own right a part of the culinary history tied to place, identity, wherever it goes.

Go here for: a fun dinner with friends (seriously come with at least a few people so you can order a good amount of food)
Order this: lomo saltado (lets be real anything with fries is a hit), char siu, chicha morada for a refreshing drink on a hot day, black sesame cheesecake tart for dessert
Amount of time to spend: give yourself at least a couple hours for a leisurely meal and some time to sit in a food coma
When to come: on the early side of a sunny evening so you can sit outside in that LA sun
Parking: is not too bad, you can probably find free street parking on Lincoln Ave if there are no meters on the main roads
